More service drives more growth

Despite economic headwinds, we were able to grow our service business in 2024, both organically and through acquisitions, with revenue exceeding €500 million for the first time. “While targeted acquisitions are increasing our geographical coverage through the service network, we are also growing by extending our range of services to particularly appeal to customers with large fleets, such as airports and construction companies,” says Andreas Schmidt, Senior Vice President of Central Service at DEUTZ.

By growing the service business, DEUTZ is progressively moving beyond the spare-parts business to become a provider of maintenance and repair services. This opens up new segments beyond DEUTZ engines, for example in the USA, where DEUTZ technicians maintain and repair entire engines manufactured by JLG. The aim is to further expand this one-stop shop offering. Our multi-brand services are also in demand. At the customer’s request, we can take care of engines from other manufacturers as well as DEUTZ engines. These services make it easier for our customers to keep their machinery running and enable us to position ourselves as an end-to-end service partner. All of this is underpinned by a smoothrunning global DEUTZ service network: “Our more than 1,000 locations ensure we are close to our customers and can offer a local point of contact,” says Schmidt.

Acquisitions made in 2023, such as our long-standing service partner M. Hochschild S.A. in Chile and the Diesel Motor Nordic Group (DMN) in Sweden, have boosted our regional service networks and our service business with non-DEUTZ engines in South America and northern Europe. DMN changed its name to DEUTZ Nordic on January 2, 2024; following a comprehensive rebranding process, the DEUTZ brand now has a more visible presence in Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.

In November 2024, we welcomed BTH FAST in Poland into the DEUTZ family. BTH FAST has been a DEUTZ distribution partner for around 30 years and has extensive expertise in the areas of mining equipment, industrial applications, railway systems, agricultural machinery, and military vehicles. The integration of BTH FAST strengthens our position in eastern Europe and expands our sales and service network in this market.

On January 1, 2025, DEUTZ took over the service activities for the MDEG and HDEP series of the off-highway variant from Rolls-Royce Power Systems (RRPS). These engines are currently marketed as the 1000–1500 mtu engine series. “We plan to develop and expand the business and, in addition to parts sales, enable our workshops to service these engines directly,” says Schmidt. The expansion of the DEUTZ product and service portfolio, and the locations added in 2024, have made our service business significantly more attractive.More than two million engines manufactured by us are in operation around the world. Taking an approach that relies on fully equipped workshop vans and experienced technicians, we aim to provide DEUTZ customers with assistance within 24 hours, even for repairs in remote areas.
