DEUTZ Short & Longblock
Our experiences - your advantage
Short block
The short block variant represents the basic solution for replacing or overhauling an engine. It includes all the essential core components of the engine, such as:
- Crankcase – the central component that houses and stabilizes the moving parts
- Pistons and connecting rods – responsible for converting combustion energy into mechanical movement
- Crankshaft – converts the linear motion of the pistons into rotary motion
- Camshaft – controls the valve movements for intake and exhaust
This solution is particularly suitable for workshops or operators who wish to reuse existing ancillary components and only need to renew the core technical engine parts. Among the engine-related Xchange products, this includes replacement solutions where reusable parts are retained to optimize costs.

Long Block
The long block variant is a pre-assembled solution for engine repair that contains significantly more components than the short block. In addition to the components of the short block, a long block includes:
- Cylinder head – pre-assembled, including valves and valve train
- Timing gear, matched to the engine type
- Basic gaskets and bearings
The advantage of a long block lies in fast and efficient repair, as the pre-installed cylinder head and other key components are already fully assembled. This significantly reduces installation time and minimizes the risk of assembly errors.
Long Block plus
The Longblock Plus variant is a customized premium solution for maximum efficiency. It includes all the components of the long block plus additional ancillary parts that would normally need to be sourced separately. These include:
- Injection systems (e.g. injectors, fuel pump)
- Charge air systems such as turbochargers
- Water pumps and oil pumps
- Auxiliary components such as alternator or starter
This solution is particularly suitable for operators who require a complete, ready-to-install engine unit with minimal assembly effort. The Longblock Plus reduces downtime to an absolute minimum, as it is delivered as an almost complete replacement engine.
