DEUTZ takes part in Cologne's fifth Nacht der Technik event

  • DEUTZ takes part in Cologne's fifth Nacht der Technik event
  • Engine museum and assembly hall will be open to visitors

The fifth Nacht der Technik evening of engineering and technology will be held in Cologne on 12 June. Once again, 56 organisations, including companies of all sizes and industries as well as education and research organisations, will be offering an insight into how they operate. DEUTZ, too, will be opening up its factory doors to engine enthusiasts.

The event was initiated back in 2009 by the Cologne branches of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) and the Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE). People will be able to visit several sites during the Nacht der Technik, as a shuttle bus service will be running. DEUTZ will be open between 6pm and 10pm, with visitors being taken on a guided tour of the Technikum engine museum and the assembly hall in Cologne-Porz.

It is now over 150 years since Nicolaus August Otto and Eugen Langen founded N.A. Otto und Cie. in Cologne, the world's first engine factory which went on to become the present-day DEUTZ AG. Development of the four-stroke principle by Otto and Langen launched the motorisation of the world. The exhibits on show in the 600m² Technikum include the engines produced by DEUTZ's founders. Most popular with visitors are usually the two gas-powered original models, which date back to 1867 and 1876 yet remain in full working order.

From the viewing gallery in the assembly hall, visitors can then compare what they have seen in the Technikum with the cutting-edge diesel engine technology used today. They will also gain an insight into the various stages of assembly in the engine production process, from delivery of the components to the finished engine.
