Restructuring of DEUTZ production units

  • Responsibility for international component production consolidated into a single corporate function
  • Assembly and associated logistics operations brought together at the Porz plant

Cologne-based DEUTZ AG has restructured its production units and allocated separate responsibilities for component production and engine assembly. By restructuring its operations, DEUTZ
aims to further increase the efficiency and competitiveness of its component production while also creating a single line of responsibility for quality, delivery time and cost of its engine assembly and associated processes in Cologne.

A single management structure at the Porz plant is now responsible for everything from goods inward to assembly, engine delivery and order processing. DEUTZ's main assembly plant in Cologne is following the example set by its facility in Ulm, where this method of overarching management responsibility for the plant has been practised successfully for some time. Wilfried Riemann has been appointed the new head of the Porz plant. The 50-year-old engineer previously managed various projects at DEUTZ. Among various positions, he was previously responsible for building up DEUTZ's exhaust-gas aftertreatment product line. In this role he was instrumental in paving the way for establishing the new joint venture between Bosch, DEUTZ and Eberspächer.

At the same time, responsibility for DEUTZ's international component manufacturing – at sites in Cologne-Deutz, Cologne-Kalk and Herschbach in Germany and at the Spanish facility in Zafra – has been consolidated into a unified corporate function. These sites have highly skilled employees manufacturing quality-critical components such as gearwheels, connecting rods, crank and camshafts, crankcases, cylinder heads, control components and conduits for assembly at the sites Cologne and Ulm. Klaus Cierocki has taken charge of the management and restructuring of this important production unit. The 43-year-old engineer was previously head of the Porz assembly plant in Cologne and head of in-house production in Cologne and Herschbach in a dual
capacity. In these roles he had been responsible for the  restructuring of assembly and production operations and for raising efficiency in these areas.

In their new roles, Wilfried Riemann und Klaus Cierocki report directly to Board of Management member Gino Mario Biondi, who is responsible for production, purchasing and development.
