Look
back at the Higher Education Fairs "bonding Aachen" and
Bonn-Rhine-Sieg "Company Day"
In
addition to around 300 other exhibitors, DEUTZ AG was again
represented at this year's Bonding career fair in Aachen, where it
built on previous successes and impressed those attending the fair.
In
a number of interesting discussions the students and graduates not
only exchanged views and information with our engineers about engine
technology, but were also informed by our employees from the Human
Resources Department about career and development opportunities at
DEUTZ AG.
In
2011 we also did not want to miss the "Company Day" at
Bonn-Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences. With our team,
consisting of three engineers from the Research and Development
Division and two employees from the Human Resources Department, we
were able to provide extensive insights into the world of work and
the numerous fields of application at DEUTZ AG.

SinoJobs
Career Days in Düsseldorf
Asia
is an important world market which will continue to grow in
importance in the future. Against the background of our existing
joint ventures in China we at DEUTZ know of the importance of
intercultural knowledge and experience on the Chinese market among
our workforce.
That
is why this year we are taking part for the first time in the
SinoJobs Career Days 2011 in Düsseldorf (www.sinojobs-careerdays.de)
in order to get to know people who have an affinity for Asia.
If
you can show that you have had experience of Asia in your previous
professional career or would like to gather initial experience of
this part of the world together with DEUTZ, why not visit us on
October 27, 2011 at the SinoJobs Career Days 2011 in Düsseldorf.
We

DEUTZ
welcomes new Apprentices
33
new apprentices began their vocational training at DEUTZ AG in
Cologne on September 7, 2011 and were welcomed by DEUTZ board member
Dr. Margarete Haase at the inaugural event in the DEUTZ pilot plant.
"I
am delighted that you have opted in favour of vocational training at
DEUTZ. A sound education is the ideal basis for your professional
career. At the same time it represents an investment in the future,
because with our qualification of young people we are today training
the next generation of our employees. I am also particularly pleased
that this year another five women have decided to train for a
technical vocation," said Dr. Margarete Haase. During the
introductory days the youngsters aged between 16 and 21 will be
prepared for their apprenticeship by the trainers and apprentices who
are in their second year of training and acquainted with the various
fields of work and divisions of the company. V
DEUTZ
offers the applicants in the technical-commercial field a total of
six different skilled trades. At the Cologne site 16 young people
will be training to become production mechanics this year, while
eight of those entering the job market have decided to train to
become industrial mechanics and four cutting machine operators. In
addition, three of the youngsters are learning the profession of
energy electronics engineer in production engineering, and one
trainee each intends to become a materials tester and warehouse
specialist.

At
the DEUTZ works in Ulm six apprentices have been learning the
profession of industrial mechanic since September 1, 2011, while two
youngsters have decided in favour of training to become cutting
machine operators there. Also on September 1, three young people at
the works in Übersee began apprenticeships to become industrial
mechanics. At the site in Herschbach DEUTZ has been training two
apprentices as cutting machine operators since August 1, 2011.
The
length of the apprenticeship for the different skilled trades varies
between two and three and a half years. In total, DEUTZ AG employs

This
year DEUTZ AG again took part in the "Mechanical Engineering
Experience Day". 16 schoolchildren with an average age of 15
were able to acquire an insight into the various professions at the
DEUTZ training workshop. "On the "Mechanical Engineering
Experience Day" the youngsters are given the opportunity to
obtain an insight into the entire range of our skilled professions in
order to find out which of them is the most suitable for them,"
explained Frank Opitz, Training Manager at DEUTZ.
The
range of apprenticeships on offer at DEUTZ is large: from electronics
engineers (m/f) to cutting machine operators (m/f), DEUTZ also
provides the opportunity to train as a warehouse management
specialist (m/f), production mechanic (m/f), industrial mechanic
(m/f) and materials tester (m/f).

Girl's
Day at DEUTZ AG
On
April 14, 2011 DEUTZ AG staged this year's "Girls' Day". On
this nationwide Career Information Day interested schoolgirls had the
opportunity to gain an insight into the world of the technical
professions at the DEUTZ apprenticeship workshop.
Girls
and young women were able to find out more information about a broad
range of technical training opportunities. Trainers and trainees
presented the various vocations for which apprenticeships are
available at DEUTZ and provided information about the company as an
employer. In an information bus of the employers' association the
participants were able to acquaint themselves with the fields of work
in the metal and electrical industry, and subsequently the girls and
women were able to gain initial practical experience in the form of
small technical exercises in the apprenticeship workshop.
"When
selecting a profession, many girls still decide in favour of those
which are considered typical for girls. With our participation in the
"Girls' Day" we would like to familiarise girls and young
women with the training opportunities available for technical
professions at DEUTZ and take away their exaggerated "respect"
for a vocation in the technical field," explained Dr. Margarete
Haase, DEUTZ Director of Finance, Personnel and Investor Relations.
Currently
17 young women are completing a technical-commercial apprenticeship
at DEUTZ. In the cross-sector comparison DEUTZ AG therefore has an
above-average share of 10% of female apprentices in the
commercial-technical field.

Scholarship
Award Ceremony at RWTH (Aachen University)
"Education
at the university? Let me put it this way: university is like a
jungle. If you survive it you can call yourself a 'survivor'. And I
am the tiger," the Rector of RWTH (Aachen University) Professor
Ernst Schmachtenberg (Doctor of Engineering) told me, a fresher,
looking down from the stage into the faces of around 500 people. As a
result of his ability to laugh at himself, as well as his honesty, my
initial nervousness during the panel discussion on the stage quickly
disappeared.
On
November 5, 2010 around 300 scholarship holders met in order to
celebrate their ceremonial admission to the North Rhine-Westphalian
Education Fund together with their sponsors from industry and friends
of the university.
As
a "fresher" I was a genuine rarity among so many older
students. After my A-levels in June 2010 I began my studies at RWTH
(Aachen University) in the subject of "Industrial Engineering -
Mechanical Engineering" in the following winter semester.
The
NRW Education Fund was set up in 2009 by the North Rhine-Westphalian
state government. Since the winter semester of 2009 young students
with excellent academic achievements have been supported financially
for the first time. Half of the money stems from state funds, with
the other half coming from industry and private individuals.
From
my sponsors, DEUTZ AG, Mr Strecker, Head of Human Resources, and Ms
Pölking-Huhn, Human Resources Development Officer, took part in this
ceremony. They followed my panel discussion with the Rector on the
stage very closely and later presented me with my scholarship
certificate. In a relaxed atmosphere over canapés and a champagne
reception we had a good opportunity to get to know one another and
discuss how we would be working together in the future.
I
am delighted with the trust placed in me and the commitment to
sponsor a fresher. Ultimately the scholarship gives me the additional
motivation and the financial freedom to escape the "tiger"
and successfully cope with the "jungle".
